Reconfigure production systems safely (AutoS²)

As part of Industry 4.0, key technological prerequisites for production systems based on self-X technologies (self-optimization, self-configuration, artificial intelligence) have already been created. The increase in efficiency and time savings that would be possible in principle with Self-X technologies for reconfiguration are immense. In industrial practice, these have so far only been used very sparingly.

One of the main reasons for this is that a free reconfiguration of a production system always requires a new safety assessment. The associated analyses and certifications are time-consuming and are now carried out manually by experts.

The project is developing mechanisms with which companies can automatically examine the safety of their machines and systems. The data required for this is converted into machine-readable semantics and analyzed by an algorithm. This is expected to reduce the costs of safety assessment and monitoring by up to 70 percent. The solution will be introduced to various standardization committees and made available to small and medium-sized enterprises.
