OWL at the Hannover Messe: Industrie.Zero – Paths and solutions for a sustainable economy
Artificial intelligence and sustainability – these are the main topics with which the OstWestfalenLippe region will be presenting itself at this year’s Hannover Messe from April 22 to 26. At the joint OWL stand (Hall 7, D 27), which is organized by OstWestfalenLippe GmbH, owl maschinenbau and it’s OWL Cluster Management, 34 companies, research institutions and networks will be showcasing solutions for the industry of tomorrow. Under the motto “Solutions for Industrie.Zero”, the focus will be on machine learning, smart and climate-neutral production, innovative energy supply, the circular economy and sustainable products, as well as the working world of the future.
“East Westphalia-Lippe is a strong high-tech location and a pioneer in the transformation of industry. The joint appearance at the Hannover Messe is an excellent calling card and the best location marketing. Here we can show what innovations the region has to offer in business and science. We are expecting a high level of attention from decision-makers, experts and multipliers from all over Germany and internationally. Our trade fair stand is a beacon in the center of Hall 7,” says Wolfgang Marquardt, authorized representative of OstWestfalenLippe GmbH, explaining the expectations of the trade fair appearance. The three organizers OstWestfalenLippe GmbH, owl maschinenbau and it’s OWL are joining forces to make the innovative strength and high culture of cooperation between business and science visible. Exhibitors at the joint stand include global market leaders Beckhoff, Benteler, Claas, GEA and Phoenix Contact, medium-sized companies such as Hymmen and Contact Software, Paderborn Airport, universities and the Fraunhofer Institutes IEM and IOSB-INA, as well as networks such as the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Ruhr-OWL and regional start-up initiatives. “Industry discusses its future topics at the Hannover Messe. The OWL joint stand offers the ideal opportunity for this. This is where active networking takes place for a week, innovative ideas are exchanged, cooperations are initiated and new product highlights are presented. The joint stand makes it particularly clear that good and trusting networking is the region’s recipe for success,” explains Almut Rademacher, Managing Director of owl maschinenbau.
Breaking new ground with artificial intelligence and easing the burden on employees
New applications for artificial intelligence in manufacturing, product development and the world of work are presented by the leading-edge cluster it’s OWL. The Fraunhofer IEM shows how generative AI is revolutionizing engineering work. Using the development of a model car as an example, the institute will demonstrate the use of AI tools such as ChatGPT. Visitors to the trade fair can experience the entire design process with the support of AI: from the first draft to creative design options and practical prototypes. Each variant will be tested and the most promising will be brought to life as 3D holograms on a holo display. The Arbeitswelt.Plus competence center shows how employees can be relieved by artificial intelligence. The Delbrück-based bathroom specialist Bette achieves this through intelligent production planning, for example. Thanks to an AI solution, the company can predict peak loads in production for up to five hours with an accuracy of around 95 percent. This and other AI solutions can be experienced using an interactive LEGO model.
“The Hannover Messe is an important platform for us to discuss approaches and results with experts and to find new partners.”
Günter Korder, Managing Director of it’s OWL
“These and other application examples demonstrate the region’s pioneering position in the field of artificial intelligence and Industry 4.0. These skills and experiences are an important success factor for sustainable business. With our new Industrie.Zero strategy, we want to develop OstWestfalenLippe into a model region for sustainable value creation. Because we are convinced that only sustainable companies can be successful in the future. The Hannover Messe is an important platform for us to discuss approaches and results with experts and to find new partners,” emphasizes Günter Korder, Managing Director of it’s OWL Clustermanagement GmbH.
Sustainable management – we show you how it’s done!
Companies and research institutions from the region will present solutions and approaches for the sustainability transformation of SMEs. These include, for example, the reduction of CO2 in production, the use of hydrogen, intelligent energy supply and circular value creation. Sustainability is part of the corporate strategy of the Bielefeld-based company Benteler Steel/Tube. The metal process specialist will be presenting how the company manufactures CO2-reduced steels and steel tubes. By using recycled materials and green electricity, the company has already been able to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 85 percent for selected products. Phoenix Contact, manufacturer of connection technology, electronics and automation, presents a model for an ‘All Electric Society’. This vision of the future describes a world in which energy from renewable resources is available in sufficient quantities and is affordable. In the InCams@Bi project, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences is working with companies to develop new approaches to optimize plastics and their handling for a circular economy.
Technologies for vocational training – New business ideas for the industry
OstWestfalenLippe GmbH shows how new technologies can be used to shape the vocational training of tomorrow. The projects ‘Weiterbildung 4.OWL’, ‘5G Lernorte OWL’ and ‘MINT 4.OWL’ focus on solutions for the development of tailor-made training courses, learning for and with the new 5G mobile communications standard and the teaching of new technologies in STEM education. At the trade fair, visitors can use the ‘NEXT Learning Creator’, for example, to design their own individual training program. Or maintain a 3D printer by having assembly instructions displayed via 3D glasses. Together with the start-up initiatives, new business models for the industry of the future will be presented. Delta3 from Detmold, for example, is developing intelligent assistance systems that can be used in industry, in workshops for the disabled and in educational institutions. This enables people to carry out complex activities that go beyond their actual abilities. The Paderborn-based start-up Cellgo offers a flexible solution for the automation of warehouses. The individual storage boxes move according to the paternoster principle, enabling optimum storage density.
